India's team at the Asian Para Games
India's squad covers athletics, badminton, archery, five-a-side football, shooting, swimming, table tennis, powerlifting, judo, boccia and cycling. Among the best-known names:
- Pramod Bhagat (para badminton), a Paralympic gold medallist;
- Manasi Joshi and Sukant Kadam (para badminton);
- Bhavina Patel (para table tennis);
- Simran Sharma, Nishad Kumar and Preethi Pal (para athletics).
Sources disagree on the exact size of the team and on the second flag-bearer: one lists sprinter Simran Sharma, another Bhavina Patel. National Diaries will update the figures once the Paralympic Committee of India confirms them.
Asian Para Games 2026 India: early results
Bhavina Patel beat Jordan's Faten Eleimat in straight games in her group-stage match and topped her group, Daily Jagran reported. India's men's blind football team lost 6-1 to Japan.
Medal events are spread across the week. India's strongest hopes, based on recent Paralympic and world results, lie in para athletics and para badminton.
Why it matters: India's para athletes have transformed the country's sporting record over the past decade, winning far more medals at recent Paralympics than at any time before. For readers abroad, the Asian Para Games are one of the largest multi-sport events for athletes with disabilities outside the Paralympics, and a key step on the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics.
Where to follow the Games
Results are published by the organisers in Aichi-Nagoya and by the Paralympic Committee of India. National Diaries will report on Indian medal wins as they're confirmed.
The Asian Para Games rarely get the attention of the Asian Games that came before them. They deserve more. Many of the athletes in Nagoya this week have overcome more just to get to the start line than most sports stars face in a career.
