Schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have until Wednesday, 21 October 2026 to submit the List of Candidates (LOC) for the 2027 Class 10 and 12 board exams without a late fee. After that, they can submit until 30 October by paying a late fee of ₹2,000 per candidate, according to the board's schedule as reported by education news sites.

Parents should check now that their child's details are correct, because only students listed in the LOC can sit the exams.

Key points

  • LOC window without late fee: 24 September to 21 October 2026.
  • With late fee of ₹2,000 per candidate: up to 30 October 2026.
  • Correction window for names and dates of birth: 2 to 4 November 2026.
  • Exam fee for schools in India: ₹1,600 for five subjects, plus ₹320 per extra subject.
  • The 2027 date sheet hasn't been released yet; exams are expected from February.

What the CBSE LOC is

The LOC is the official list of students a school sends to CBSE for the board exams. It records each student's name, parents' names, date of birth, subjects, photograph and signature. The board issues admit cards based on it, and the details appear on the final certificate.

That's why mistakes matter. A misspelt name or wrong date of birth in the LOC can end up on a marksheet that a student uses for years, for college admissions, passports and jobs.

For Class 10, schools must include all students in the LOC for the first board exam. Under CBSE's two-exam system for Class 10, the list for the second exam is submitted separately after the first, according to Careers360.

Visually impaired candidates are exempt from examination fees, according to the reported schedule. One report gave a different late-fee window ending 26 October; most sources, and the board's schedule as reported by Careers360, give 30 October.

What parents should check before 21 October

Schools submit the LOC, not parents, but parents can catch errors early:

  • Spellings: the student's and both parents' names, exactly as on official documents.
  • Date of birth: as in school records.
  • Subjects: the right subject codes and combinations, especially for Class 12.
  • Photograph and signature: recent and clear.

If something's wrong, tell the school immediately. After the LOC is submitted, schools can't change declared sections or student strength, and only limited corrections are allowed in the November window.

Why it matters: CBSE's board exams are taken by more than 40 lakh (four million) students each year in India and in CBSE schools abroad, including many in the Gulf. For families overseas, the fees and deadlines for schools outside India differ, and a missed deadline can mean a costly late fee or worse.

When will the CBSE 2027 date sheet come out?

CBSE hasn't released the 2027 timetable yet. Students should rely only on the official website, cbse.gov.in, and ignore schedules circulating on social media. Based on recent years, the main exams are expected to start in mid-February.

A misspelt surname feels small in October. In March, printed on an admit card, it isn't. The next three days are the cheapest time to fix it.
